I have enjoyed a great site. read it from start to finish without stopping.as a matter of interest I was at sea with ellerman lines from 1962-66 mainly on the manz run. I too like your father miss the seagoing life.

Wonderful site Hugh, brought back old memories of my first few years at sea. I joined I served my apprenticeship with the Reardon Smith Line, joining the s.s. Leeds City in March 1948. She was built in 1927, three years after the Queen City but almost identical.I also later served as 2nd mate on the new Queen City which was built in 1950.

I discovered this site whilst browsing the web for my family history. This site is really well set out and beautifully done. I appreciate this particular site as my great uncle was Francis B. McQuone a purser on this ship and he died at sea.

Well designed and laid out site Hugh. I was checking it out before replying to your request for information about WW1. I am planning a similar site about SS Morea on which my grandfather served before WW1 and hope to learn from some of your ideas here.Benjidog

I found this a most interesting web site. My father was the Chief Engineer of the City of Cairo at the time of the sinking. his previous ship City of Winchester had been sunk in May 1941 and he spent 14 days in a lifeboat on that occasion. I was an apprentice with Ellerman Lines and heard of the sinking of the City of Cairo when I landed in Trinidad after my own ship, City of Bath had been sunk between Recife and Trinidad. My father was medically unfit for further sea service when he reached home in 1943. He died in 1969 aged 87.

Hugh thank you for all the help you have given me in searches regarding MN.This site is one of the best that I have seen,and as your greatest fans( your family) say it is a fitting tribute to their grandfather and father. May you be richly blessed for this information, it will be a great help to many in years to come about the bravery of men from all nationalities who did not have to go to sea but did and won the wars for their country.May there names be forever remembered.Regards David H Ex MN.

congratulations on your site, very interesting. my grandfather was leslie boundy so it is fascinating to read about the events in such detail.i have a very good photo of my grandfather at buckingham palace after collecting his award should you be interested for your photo gallery.
