I have been trying to find information on the mv Oil Endeavour, my father worked on her when in dry dock sometime in the late 70s early 80s in north shields and managed to get us on board and look around, from then on I wanted to go to sea, I am curious to know what happened to her, if I remember right the captain at the time was a man called Douglas, any info would be much appreciatedAdmin reply: Darren,I have sent you an email with some information regarding Oil Endeavour.

My dad was Terence Fairbrother (Chief Steward or Catering Officer) on the Lycaon during the falklands conflict, My mum was pregnant at the time with my brother. I was 10yrs, mum had my brother craig 16th Sept. Just after my dad came home. I have been trying to find out things about him and the people on the Lycaon during the Falklands as he died in 1995 before I could appreciate the things he told me. Lorraine

My father Roland Dodds was an engineer on the City of Cairo. He didn't really talk much about it until his later years. He criticised the book as he was placed in the wrong lifeboat. I remember him telling me that they hoped to get to St. Helena but that if they missed it there would have been no chance of survival. He also said that when they landed at St. Helena the men ran to the Governor's House. I didn't realise until years later that the Governor's House was high up on the hilly island.i understand that he and some other men had the use of a car while they were there. Unfortunately the brakes failed on this car and they had to jump out of the car to save their lives! My father suffered from nightmares and asthma in the early post war years which obviously came from the stress involved in the sinking of the City of Cairo......It was lovely to see Dad's photo on your website

What a wondeful WW2 MN website! Well laid out, easy to use and nice to look at, I came across it via a guest book entry in Danny Omara's Operation Pedestal site.Obviously a great deal of care, time and effort has gone into your work and I'm sure it is appreciated by the families of those lost from the SS City of Cairo.Having a similar interest in a couple of WW2 ships (SS Ceramic and MV Melbourne Star), I've been fascinated by the wealth of detail you have researched for your commemorative tribute. Thanks for sharing it all. Best wishes,Frank

I stumbled on your super site whilst searching for information on Dr Douglas Quantrill. Congratulations on a splendid tribute to your father.I regret to tell you that Dr Quantrill who had been a valued customer and later a friend passed away in 2005. We shared a dram only a few days before.
