I would like to congratulate you on your wonderful website. I am doing some research on graves in my village churchyard and Donald and Marjorie Miller are buried here. Donald's account of the sinking and their subsequent ordeal has helped me to build up a picture of him and his wife. Obviously a man with deep Christian beliefs he went on to enjoy his later years in our lovely village. He was involved with the church and also sketched and painted the church, village green and pond.

Great website!I have a great interest in u-672 and just recently was able to speak with a crew member of u-672, he also served aboard u-68 and is one of the kindest gents I have had the pleasure of speaking with during my research.I will email him about the exact dates he served aboard u-68, but I do believe that he was on board during the sinking of the Cairo.

My Uncle Dick ( Richard Burrage ) was a mercant marine on the ss Allende when it was torpedoed and sunk on March 17th. 1942.Uncle Dick has since passed away from cancer....I loved him very much. He was an amazing soul who uplifted everyone he came in contact with. He never talked about the terrible conditions he and the surviving crew endured,and if any of the crew survived the prisoner of war camps they were sent to and how and when they were released!I would really like to know who the other ship mates were and there families, and if there is any documentation of who was on that ship(names of all the crew members)when it was sunk! I was shocked to see your interest in Alphonse Gosselin. He is mygrandmother's brother. They were raised in Downeyville and he was buried at sea. He had 5 brothers and sisters. If you want more info on him please contact me.

I found the site very moving and well presented. The description of the casualties reminded me of my own [engineer officer Merchant Marine] Uncle Jim, who I never met, as he was killed [before I was born] when his ship was torpedoed off North Cape while engaged in supplying the Russians with much needed supplies.May they ALL rest in peace.

I am originally from Glasgow and while attending the local Cenotaph on Remembrance Day, decided I needed to look into my Dad's wartime in Merchant Navy.Like you, my Dad was reluctant to talk about his experiences (except once, in South Africa, after a couple of bottles of the local Red ) How we wished we had a tape recorder ready !)He was torpedoed a few times (including his maiden voyage, two days out of Greenock) and he served as a Radio Operator on Danish merchant ships for most of the war.Just started my investigations this morning, and came across your Website.....what a tremendous achievement. I am interested in history in general, but in ships history in particular.I and a group of Technical Divers have been researching and diving on an Ellerman Wilson Line ship, the ss Dago built in Hull in 1902.ss Dago was sunk by a German FW 200 Condor in Peniche - Portugal, March 15th 1942.So now you can join this information on the war losses page, in what concerns 1942.Best regardsJorge Russo
